MBP President Scott Stringer, Jan. 6, 2013

If you weren’t able to attend the January 6, 2013 press conference held by Manhattan Borough President Scott Stringer to unveil his report entitled “Led Stray: Reforming NYC’s Animal Care & Control,” here’s Shelter Reform’s video of that event.

In addition to Mr. Stringer, there were the following guests speakers who appear on this video:

State Senators Serrano, Espaillat, and Hoylman;

State Assemblypersons Kellner and Rosenthal;

City Councilmember Gail Brewer;

City Council Candidate Marc Landis;

Gregory Castle, CEO of Best Friends Animal Society;

Jeff Latzer of Adopt NY; and

Phyllis Taiano of Four Paws Sake.

In his report, Mr. Stringer not only lays out the causes of the AC&C’s dysfunction, but equally important, he lays out a clear blueprint for change.

Shelter Reform Action Committee is honored to have assisted Mr. Stringer’s office in preparing this keystone document which lays the groundwork for reforming the AC&C.

POLITICIANS TO THANK

The AC&C is the product of political expediency: In 1995 Mayor Giuliani and the City’s Department of Health created the AC&C, claiming it was an independent charity but chaining it to the DOH for its very existence.

Changing the AC&C’s structure isn’t rocket science. The formula is simple: an informed electorate + political will = change.

The elected representatives who surrounded MBP Stringer at the January 6th event deserve our thanks for standing up to do the right thing for NYC’s homeless animals despite the DOH.

With your help, more politicians will join their ranks to demand change.  In the next few days you’ll learn how to advance Mr. Stringer’s call to action.

In the meantime, just cut and paste the following block of addresses to email send your “thanks” to the following politicians who spoke at yesterday’s event:
